Safety, Security, and Quality Assurance (SSQA) Division seeks multiple entry-level safety professionals to join our
Transit Operations Security Liaison Team within Bus and Rail Operations. These 12-month Special Duty Assignment (SDA) positions report to the Transit Physical Security Superintendent.
As a member of the Transit Operations Security Liaison team, you will provide on-site safety and security support at bases, addressing challenges related to both intentional and unintentional harm, and offering information and resources to help address safety and security questions that come up at the work site. Our team of Security Liaisons also plays a crucial role in processing approximately 900 videos per month in response to video footage requests from Base Chiefs, Superintendents, Transit Police, SSQA, Risk Management, and other internal and external clients. This work directly supports Metro's ability to provide faster, more efficient customer service to our employees, clients, and community.
We are looking for coachable individuals with strong attention to detail, excellent interpersonal and conflict management skills, experience in public transportation, and a proven history of providing services that ensure passenger and employee safety. Our ideal candidates will be reliable, possess strong time and task management skills, and be able to work flexible hours and/or on-call as needed to accommodate 24/7 transit operations. Ideally, candidates will have knowledge, experience, or a strong interest in any of the following areas:
- Bus and Rail Operations and Maintenance
- Customer Service
- Transportation Safety and Security
Who May Apply: These SDA opportunities are intended to provide growth opportunities and career development to employees represented by ATU 587 who have been a Full Time Operator for a minimum of 3 years (ATU 587 CBA Article 20: Section 9) Recruitment Info: This recruitment will be used to fill multiple Special Duty Assignments that are expected to last 12 months, with the possibility of extension. An eligibility pool may be created from this recruitment to fill future Special Duty Assignment Transit Operations Security Liaison vacancies. The pool would be active for up to 12 months, at the discretion of the hiring authority.

Job Duties
Applying equity and social justice principles is a daily responsibility and a foundational expectation for all King County employees. As a Transit Operations Security Liaison, you will also:
- Support the investigation and analysis of accidents and incidents.
- Participate in safety and security meetings, contributing to hazard identification and corrective action planning.
- Monitor work sites for safety and security risks and help develop mitigation strategies.
- Support Employees by recommending and identifying appropriate tools and training in alignment with existing safety and security policies/procedures.
- Ensure safety and security promotional materials are posted and updated at bases as needed.
- Monitor and ensure organizational activities are conducted in accordance with federal, state, and local regulations, rules, and guidelines and industry best practices for safety, including Washington State Safety and Security standards.
- Utilize Metro's safety data management systems to enter safety and security reports.
- Function as the onsite liaison for front-line employee safety and security concerns.
- Assist in developing incident investigation reports, which include pulling and processing video for internal and external stakeholders.
- Retrieve and process video footage from coach CCTV systems, coordinate and engage with other work groups, entities, operators, and others about coach videos and other security topics.
- Represent the Security section at meetings and hearings.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
We are looking for candidates who meet the following REQUIRED qualifications:- Must be a current ATU 587 bargaining unit member with at least three (3) years of experience as a Full Time Operator for King County Metro Transit.
- Must have an exemplary attendance record.
- Knowledge of the bus operating environment and the buses themselves.
- Knowledge of coach operations including activating equipment and relocating coaches in emergencies, as needed.
- Strong attention to detail, and the ability to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Must possess a current, unrestricted Washington Commercial Driver's License- Class B passenger endorsement, with the air brake restriction removed.
- A current CDL Medical Examiner's card is required. Basic proficiency with computers is required.

DESIRED qualifications include: - Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and other MS Office Suite products.
- Knowledge of and respect for maintaining chain-of-custody protocols.
- Awareness of Metro and ATU 587 policy about the appropriate use of video.
- Technical proficiency with CCTV systems and computers.
- Familiarity with Metro's fleet management, deployment, and hosteling program.
- Troubleshooting skills and resourcefulness when solving problems.
- Demonstrated experience effectively de-escalating others.
- Emotional intelligence, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with others to find solutions.
- Time management skills and the ability to handle multiple competing priorities
Necessary Special Requirements- Applicants are subject to random, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing in compliance with federal DOT alcohol and controlled substance testing program protocols.
- Candidates must be willing to work flexible shift times and on-call in order to complete critical tasks with minimal disruption to transit services.

Work Schedule This position is non-exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for overtime pay. Employees in this job classification will work 40 hours per week on a flexible work schedule approved by their immediate supervisor, and typically work hours are between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Employees must be available to work an altered schedule, including swing and graveyard shifts as needed, and must be willing to be on-call when deemed necessary to respond to job responsibilities. Employees may be required to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays.
Work Location
Work will generally be performed at Rail and Bus Operations Bases but may include all Metro bases or locations anywhere within the Metro service area.
