Overview

The Environmental Compliance Specialist III is responsible for ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal environmental regulations in support of Company operations, maintenance, and construction activities. The specialist is responsible for providing technical guidance and leadership to various company departments concerning compliance with environmental regulations. Additionally, this position directly supports company initiatives related to ESG.


Responsibilities

Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Provide technical guidance and assistance to various company departments concerning compliance with environmental regulations
  • Prepare and submit documents related to gaining federal or state authorization for company activities or demonstrating compliance with applicable regulations to the respective agencies
  • Monitor regulatory initiatives, estimate potential impacts to company, and participate in the process involved in the rulemaking
  • Provide support to company initiatives related to ESG
  • Liaise with regulatory agencies in support of company functions
  • Maintain ongoing compliance programs needed to enhance the environmental performance of the company (e.g., secondary containment, spill kits, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science or related physical science field or equivalent work experience as determined by the company.
  • 5+ years of environmental work experience related to air permitting, SPCC, or other applicable environmental compliance requirements
  • Knowledge of environmental rules and regulations
  • Experience managing the work of multiple environmental projects
  • Ability to comprehend and analyze regulatory initiatives and evaluate impact to company
  • Valid driver's license and insurability
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint) or related program
  • Ability to work independently in prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines

Preferred:

  • Major in environmental studies, chemistry, biology, or engineering
  • Advanced degree
  • General understanding of environmental rules and regulations
  • Experience writing various permitting and compliance documents, such as Air Permits and SPCC Plans
  • Experience with EPA and State Department of Environmental regulations
