Summary
The King County Facilities Management Division (FMD) is looking to hire experienced professional
Security Officers to join their security team. The Security Management team provides physical building security, building access and control, operates an emergency dispatch center, manages lost and found processes, and offers an after-hours employee escort program.
IMPORTANT:
- King County FMD Security is a 24-hour operation, and presence may be required at any King County facility.
- Security officers will be required to work a varied schedule including 8-hour and/or 10-hour shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
- Security officers are required to report to a variety locations throughout King County for business and training needs.
- Term-Limited Temporary positions are "at will" but are full-time and eligible for comprehensive benefits. TLT positions may be eligible for retirement benefits. This TLT position is currently approved to last 12 months with the possibility of extending based on business and operational needs.
- This recruitment will be used to fill multiple TLT vacancies, and also to create a list of competitive candidates to fill future vacant positions as they become available.

Job Duties
The most successful candidates, at a minimum, will demonstrate skill and ability to: - Safeguard County property against damage or loss; enforce building operation and safety regulations, and control ingress and egress of assigned County premises.
- Make security checks of assigned premises, check doors, windows, and building perimeters and write reports of criminal activity and unusual or unsafe conditions.
- Safeguard County employees and authorized persons and occasionally provide security escort service to County employees to ensure their safety.
- Handle disturbances, unruly or threatening persons, remove trespassers or unauthorized individuals from assigned County premises.
- Coordinate with local Police to remove or detain hostile or aggressive individuals threatening the public, County employees or property.
- Staff security desks and maintain a log of all activity on a given shift, monitor building fire alarm systems, monitor and operate CCTV surveillance systems, monitor duress alarms, operate Access Control computer systems and dispatch Facilities and Court Security Officers via Radio.
- Evaluate observed or reported incidents, prepare accurate, comprehensive, incident reports, service reports and provide documentation of problems and security concerns.
- Perform after-hours weapons screening duties in Courthouses; handle after-hours building emergency repair requests, in coordination with the Duty Manager.
- Other duties as assigned.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE: - Any combination of experience/education/training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work.
- Previous professional, paid security experience.
- Knowledge of defensive tactics, and criminal and civil legal protections for persons and property.
- An effective communication style and the ability to synthesize complex ideas and concepts effectively in a variety of settings with a diverse audience.
- Customer focus in building and maintaining positive internal and external client relationships, including elected officials.
- Demonstrated adherence to organizational core values and ethical behavior on and off the job.
- Ability to routinely exercise good judgment and quickly asses a situation and respond in a reasonable way with inapplicable policies and procedures.
- Focus and adhere to the King County equity and social justice initiatives and principles while performing their duties.
Supplemental Information
NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS - Successful candidates must have the ability to work or be assigned any shift as needed.
- Must be able to wear a ballistic vest for the entirety of assigned shift except during approved breaks.
- Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license.
- Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation with the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (DAJD), reference checks, and a pre-employment physical examination, if selected.
- This position is represented by the King County Security Guild.
- This position is designated as Mission Critical - employees who provide for and maintain the essential functions of county services declared or otherwise occurring emergencies.
