Summary



The Security Management Section with King County's Facilities Management Division (FMD) is looking to hire a Security Sergeant to focus on the ongoing security services training requirements and needs. The Security Management team provides physical building security, building access and control, operates an emergency dispatch center, and manages lost and found processes.? This position is responsible for developing and implementing a training program for security staff, managing certification and recertification requirements, training security staff , and implementing security programs, policies and procedures and ensuring that proper protocols are followed.
  • The exact reporting location for this position is subject to change based on business and operational needs.
  • This position will be assigned to first shift - Monday - Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

Job Duties



PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare, coordinate, and execute all Security Management Section training program requirements, including new employee orientation , first aid, and defensive tactics.?
  • Manage Security Team certifications and recertification requirements; provide routine updates to leadership on recertification statuses.
  • Perform a variety of administrative tasks related to the training program management.
  • Assist with Public Disclosure Requests (PDRs).
  • Perform all duties normally assigned to a Security Officer or Security Dispatcher during staff shortages and to carry out work requirements as needed.
  • Provide daily direction and guidance as needed to a decentralized workforce of Security Officers and Dispatchers in securing the persons , property, and facilities on County Property.
  • Participate in staff training or retraining; provide feedback to the Security Management Section Manager and the Security Supervisors as it relates to performance appraisals; ensures that the policies, procedures, and protocols of the security unit are effectively carried out by security unit staff and recommends corrective action when the policies, procedures and protocols are not followed.
  • Review work schedules , and structure work assignments to meet operational needs and ensure proper coverage.
  • Maintain professional working relationships with staff, tenants, supervisors and the public.
  • Maintain effective and professional customer service delivery to internal and external customers as a key liaison of service for the security unit.
  • Manage time effectively to meet work tasks and objectives within required timelines.
  • Communicate ideas effectively in writing as well as verbally in a manner that demonstrates professionalism, effective judgment and discretion.
  • Review daily activity logs, reports, and other data as necessary and enter data into spreadsheets used for statistical analysis to generate quarterly and annual activity reports.
  • Implement policies, procedures, building emergency plans, and after-hour weapons screening program in accordance with superior court orders; acts as an alternate Fire Safety Director.
  • Review and oversee reports of subordinates for completeness and adherence to policy prior to submittal; prepare reports and provide information related to incident investigations.
  • Oversee staff access to buildings and facilities, and coordinate site investigations when outside law enforcement agencies are involved.
  • May serve as Acting Security Supervisor in the absence of the Security Supervisor.
  • May be required to become certified to instruction of first aid, self-defense, and other relevant skills and instruct the section as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills



OU R IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:
  • Previous experience in designing, developing, and m aintaining training programs and curriculum tailored to law enforcement, security, or military needs.
  • Public speaking or instruction experience, providing hands-on instruction in critical areas such as defensive tactics, use of force, de-escalation techniques, and first aid which are k n owledge, experience, and skills required of the Security Officers .
  • Knowledge o f defensive tactics and use of force, and criminal and civil legal protections for persons and property , and the ability to convey that knowledge to others.
  • A strong background in either law enforcement, military, or security, with substantial field experience and applied knowledge of safety protocols and operational procedures.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, for the creation and presentation of training materials or statistical reports .
  • Strong p roblem-solving and conflict resolution skills .
  • A p roven track record of consistent and dependable work attendance, ensuring reliability and commitment to duties.
  • We seek qualified candidates with high integrity, trust and proven skills in the Security Services profession.?

NECESSARY REQUIREMENTS
  • Successful candidates? must have the ability ?to work or be assigned any shift as needed.
  • Must be able to wear a ballistic vest ?for the entirety of assigned shift except during approved breaks.
  • Must possess a valid Washington State driver's license , or the ability to travel throughout King County in a timely manner in a variety of County vehicles.
  • Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation? with the Department of Adult and Juvenile Detention (DAJD), as well as a pre-employment physical examination, if selected.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
  • This position is non-exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible.
  • The Security Management Section operates on a 24/7 schedule.
  • The standard work week for this position is 40 hours.
  • This position is represented by the King County Security Guild.
