This is a t erm limited temporary position that is funded through June 2028 The King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office is seeking to hire a motivated individual as a
Bilingual Victim Advocate t o join our office. The ideal candidate will be working in the Protection Order Advocacy Program. The Protection Order Advocacy Program (POAP) is a unique victim services program offered through the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office. This program is housed in the criminal division of the office, however services are focused on the civil protection order process. POAP is comprised of a team of advocates and legal navigator who provide one-one-one help. Protection Order Advocates rotate through different roles that include in court advocacy, meeting with petitioners as the appointment advocate and serving as the designated triage advocate for the day which includes responding to incoming requests for service received over the phone, email or through office walk ins. Given POAP's small team, advocates focus direct services to individuals who are seeking protection from a current or former intimate partner or parents filing on behalf of their children. The services offered by Protection Order Advocates center around the civil protection order process and often include explaining and addressing questions about the process, providing information about the different order types and legal definitions, assisting in completing and filing the required forms during scheduled appointments, providing emotional support and connecting petitioners with other appropriated community, civil legal aid and system-based resources as needed. POAP's service model is considered hybrid so all services are offered both virtually and in person depending on petitioner preference.

Work Schedule: This position works a 40-hour work week schedule, normally Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. An alternative schedule is subject to supervisor approval. This position is eligible for King County's generous benefits package.
Employees assigned to this position enjoy a hybrid work schedule that allows telecommuting, with a minimum of 2-days in office per week, subject to business needs and a telecommuting agreement. If a successful candidate is new to the King County Prosecuting Attorney's Office, they will be required to work in office three days a week for the first six months of employment. Salary: Range 50 -$37.47 (step one) - $47.50 (step ten) *
Union Membership: Positions in this classification are represented by Teamsters Local No. 117.

* In addition to the benefits listed on the benefits tab, employees with less than 2 years of service will receive .25 per hour less than the hourly salary table due to a mandatory contribution toward the Teamsters Pension Trust that was voted by members of the collective bargaining agreement between our office and Teamsters Local No. 117. This contribution is made by the employee and after two years it is paid by the employer.
Job Duties
This position provides advocacy for petitioners who seek civil protection orders with an emphasis on Domestic Violence Protection Orders to include: Intake and interviews with petitioners; support and assistance in completing protection order forms through the online protection order system; providing general information and assistance to the public on matters related to civil protection orders; accompaniment to court virtually and in-person as requested or appropriate; referral to social service providers and civil legal aid through project safety; professional use of judgment when balancing business priorities required. The Protection Order Advocacy Program receives requests for assistance via email, phone, and in person. The ability to triage and identify the level of need is critical. Additional responsibilities include but are not limited to data collection and maintenance, assisting petitioners through our Protection Order portal and providing support for the Race, Equity, and Social Justice policy and principles, working with PAO colleagues and management to identify opportunities for improvement.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
- Must be fluent in Spanish and support Spanish speaking victims (required)
- Considerable knowledge of the civil or criminal justice system and experience in the field of domestic violence services required
- In depth knowledge and experience of the Civil Protection Order process, implications on victims and application of law
- Knowledge of basic victim advocacy principles and ethics
- Knowledge of trauma informed care and victim centered principles
- Knowledge of communications principles, methods, and materials
- Considerable knowledge of local victim services related community resources
- Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with strict attention to detail, are required
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with persons in crisis
- Demonstrated ability to work within and across systems and demonstrated ability to multi-task and problem-solve with quick deadlines are a priority
- Ability to demonstrate predictable, reliable, and timely attendance is required
- Ability to work with supervision, receiving instructions/feedback, coaching/counseling, and/or action/discipline
- Additional responsibilities and/or tasks may be incorporated, or existing ones modified as business needs evolve
- Ability to be adaptable and flexible to changing court processes, team needs, and use of technology
