The Bismarck Tribune, the newspaper in the capital city of North Dakota, has an exciting job opportunity for a full-time energy reporter.

Our state has long been a leader in fossil fuel energy production and is now working toward becoming carbon neutral by 2030. The beat is ripe for interesting stories about how people and communities are being affected as the nation transitions to new sources of energy, including tribal communities. North Dakota is home to five federally recognized tribes.

Many North Dakota energy stories attract national attention, such as the Dakota Access Pipeline protests and energy development near Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

The successful candidate will cover developments in the Bakken oil fields, which make North Dakota one of the nation's top oil-producing states; coal, with North Dakota home to the single-largest deposit of lignite in the world; wind energy, which North Dakota is a leading state in its development. State leaders have embraced carbon capture and sequestration technology, with numerous projects in the works to capture emissions from industrial facilities and bury them in rocks deep underground. In addition, North Dakota is seeking to become a regional hydrogen hub and seeing a lot of interest from the cryptocurrency industry with huge data centers planned for our state.

The Bismarck Tribune recently received first place general excellence among daily newspapers in our state, and also was named Best of the Dakotas for general excellence. We take pride in being a leader in energy coverage and are not afraid to take on complex projects. We prefer candidates with previous reporting experience, but will consider strong recent graduates.

The position is based in Bismarck, the state's second-largest city. Bismarck and neighboring Mandan are along the Missouri River with miles of trails for outdoor recreation along with a growing food and culture scene. The region also offers prime hunting and fishing opportunities and is an easy drive to a national park. Bismarck-Mandan is a fun place to live and work with the amenities of a big city without the traffic and high cost of living.

The Tribune is a member of Lee Enterprises and offers a full benefits package including medical, dental, a generous paid time off program and a 401(k) plan.
