Job Description

Instrument/Equipment Preparation:

  • Decontaminates, sterilizes and prepares surgical instruments
  • Decontaminates clinical equipment
  • Distributes surgical instruments and clinical equipment
  • Assures quality instrument set preparation
  • Monitors and re-stocks supply and equipment
    Customer Service:
  • Works closely with Department Manager, Surgeons, Surgery Center, NMMC-Tupelo Surgery Staff and Off-Site Clinics to assure patient and physician needs are met
  • Interacts one-on-one with Surgery Staff and Surgeons to assure positive patient outcomes
  • Recommends and Implements action for improving processes
    Supervise:
  • Supervises the processing of reusable supplies, materials, and equipment through sterilizing in accordance with applicable policies and procedures
  • Coordinates CSP Staff daily to assure quality and efficient staffing
  • Coordinates shift work assignments for employees
  • Works directly with Head Nurses regarding tray issues
  • Delivers Staff Huddles to incoming shifts
  • Responsible for running/documenting daily washer and/or sterilizer tests
  • Assist with new staff orientation
    Education/Communication:
  • Effectively communicates sterile techniques and enforces quality care issues with the hospital staff
    Regulatory:
  • Abides by Federal, State, and NMHS’ policies/procedures, guidelines, and/or laws
  • Adheres to NMHS/NMMC Policies/Procedures/Guidelines
    Adheres to and enforces CSP policies

    Job Knowledge:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent; required
  • Must have graduated from an accredited Operating Room Technician program; required, ADN degree preferred
  • Must be certified as a Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) within 1 year of accepting position; required
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a Central Sterile Processing Department; required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication required
  • Knowledge of computer hardware/software; required
  • Detail oriented; required
  • Excellent stress-management skills; required
    Ability to interact with internal and external customers; required
