The Adult Services Division (ASD) of DCHS works in partnership with communities to develop, support and provide human services programs focused on achieving results in housing stability, financial stability, healthy living and social engagement for veterans, servicemembers and their families; older adults and their caregivers; and other populations who experience vulnerability. The division's work also includes efforts to strengthen connections within, and improve access to, the human services system.

ASD Resource Navigators/Social Services Professionals are key members of the ASD Resource Access Team, which is charged with developing and maintaining a unified systems approach to the ASD portfolio of resources. This position will work within King County's internal service referral system to help King County residents who speak English and/or Spanish connect with needed programs and resources. Resource Navigators may assist customers in identifying needs and navigating processes to enroll in programs and/or apply for resources.

WORK SCHEDULE/CONDITIONS This is a Special Duty Assignment (SDA) or Term-Limited Temporary (TLT) position anticipated to end in 12 months from start date, but subject to change dependent on operational need. This position is scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm. This position meets the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible with supervisory pre-approval. This position is represented by PSEU.

MISSION CRITICAL POSITION STATUS: This position has been designated Non-Mission Critical. Job Duties

  • Provide bilingual services in English and Spanish.
  • Interface with Resource Access Representatives to access customer referrals. Monitor, track and resolve referrals within referral database.
  • Conduct customer intake, determine needs, and create bridge plan.
  • Monitor cases, ensuring customers are connected to desired services. Advocate for customers, as needed to ensure progress.
  • Provide Emergency Financial Assistance to customers, per policies and guidelines, as needed.
  • Maintain customer records by completing case notes, logging events and detailing progress. Complete case with final case note and exit customer.
  • Complete required paperwork, reports and data entry required for customer, which may include customer eligibility, activities, demographics, and outcome attainment.
  • Maintain customer confidentiality by strictly adhering to HIPPA and other applicable policies and protocols.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining professional networks and participating in required trainings.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with internal and external referral partners.
  • Encourage a knowledge-sharing culture across the organization.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

  • Bilingual: Fluency in English/Spanish both written and spoken.
  • Direct services experience in an adult centered environment.
  • Deep knowledge of equity and social justice principles and practices, and understanding of the effects of place, race, policy and system-based inequities on marginalized communities.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, education, or related field. At least three years of recent experience providing direct multi-level social services. Relevant experience can be substituted for education if the applicant is able to clearly demonstrate that experience will allow them to meet the above requirements/job duties.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform job duties within the context of understanding and applying complex regulations and definitions.
  • Skill in working and building rapport with diverse cultural, socio-economic and ethnic populations.
  • Knowledge of community resources and referral agencies regarding employment, education and technical skills programs.
  • Customer service skills in person and via telephone/email (discretion, patience, etiquette, professionalism).
  • Ability to effectively manage time to work on multiple tasks in high pressure/short deadline environment, and to adapt to changes in work-load demand and priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and human relations skills, including conflict resolution techniques.
  • Computer skills and proficiency in a variety of software programs, including MS Word, Excel, Adobe, and Outlook.
  • Skill in written and oral communications for a variety of audiences and the ability to manage work across several sites.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word for Windows, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License or the ability to travel throughout the county in a timely manner.
