Are you seeking a journalism career with a wide variety of stories to cover? The Mason City (Iowa) Globe Gazette is looking for a reporter with the ability to break news and show its impact on the community. The primary beat is covering police, fire and courts, but you'll have the opportunity to write about other local events. You will react at the drop of a hat to cover a fire, accident, or natural disaster, but have time to write feature stories on local events, personalities and businesses.

Responsibilities include writing and shooting video and photos for our digital platform and the newspaper, posting content online and on social media to engage and grow our digital subscriber base.

If you are able to write clearly, develop sources and can take initiative to find stories, this may be the role for you. The successful candidate will be proficient in AP writing and reporting, photography, videography and digital platforms.

Preference will be given to candidates with a journalism degree, although new graduates/journalists are welcome to apply. The Globe Gazette provides an opportunity for journalists to learn and grow. This position includes some night and weekend hours. A valid driver's license, a reliable vehicle and insurance are required.

Mason City is a vibrant community of 27,000 in the center North Iowa, just 10 miles from a lakeside resort city. With good schools, popular restaurants and bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities, it's also just two hours from both Des Moines and Minneapolis.
