To effectively register patients within a timely and efficient manner in accordance with the policies of the Admissions Department and Hospital Administration.

Responsibilities:
' Interviews patientA. Gathers accurate demographic and insurance information contained in the administrative and medical record.B. Secures proper admission consent from patient for authorization to treat, permission to release information in order to verify and file the insurance claim and guarantee of payment of account. Enters notes that consent has not been obtained in the patient care system; and documents attempts to obtain consent through notes.C. Explains Notice of Privacy Practices and provide appropriate material with regard to Advance Directives (living will and durable power of attorney for health care) in accordance with Federal, State and JCAHO requirements.D. Provides estimate of outpatient charge, collects payment, and document transactions.Completes registration documentationA. Copies insurance card(s) for verification purposes and financial review.B. Documents advising the patient of his/her rights as a patient.C. Documents pertinent activity on the patient account via notes.D. Documents providing privacy information &HIPAA Acknowledgment.E. Copies necessary papers to complete charts and folders.F. Places armband on patient.G. Obtain patient’s signature on “consent for treatment” form.Secures escort or directs patient to the appropriate treatment areaProvides assistance, guidance and directions to visitors, patients, employees, vendors, and physician.Performs duties of receptionistA. Greets patients in a polite, cooperative and courteous manner.B. Ensures that the patient is in the appropriate area for registration, directing patients needing to go to other areas with instructions; enters information regarding the patient’s name and time of arrival on the daily log sheet.C. Monitors the reception desk and answers phone calls in a timely and professional manner; transferring/forwarding calls to the appropriately, and retrieving voice mails messages including follow-up and deletions.D. Maintains appearance of the lobby area.E. Logs all patients name, arrival time, department, note time patient is taken to register. Obtains signature from pre-registered patients.F. Monitors patient health and well being and seek assistance as needed.G. Provide work/school excuses.H. Be mindful of patients who arrive and length of time waiting in lobby. Notify supervisor of delays.I. Types list of pre-registered patients.J. Assists in preparation of patient charts for next day’s procedures.Maintains supplies and office equipmentA. Orders necessary supplies for the department’s daily functional needs.B. Replenishes office equipment with needed paper, ink, toners, pamphlets, etc.C. Calls for service repairs as need is identified.D. Picks up and sorts mailE. Keeps fax machine clear and files in order throughout the day.F. Fax dietary order for lunches by 10:00am.Communicates with othersA. Establishes effective relationships with co-workers and employees in other departments. Assists others and shows willingness to work as a team player.B. Performs appropriately in difficult situations by remaining calm, notifying appropriate personnel and initiating appropriate action.C. Responds to inquiries from patients, relatives, physicians, insurance companies and the general public quickly and efficiently by actively listening and taking appropriate action.D. Discusses problems and/or confidential information only in appropriate settings and only with appropriate personnel. Keeps any confidential documents secure and out of the public view.E. Communicate with Patient Care Tech and Nurse regarding order clarification or clinical questions.F. Communicate with patent and/or family members regarding bed availability.G. Notify IS and the Admissions Analyst when the computer system is down or when the hospital goes to emergency power.Assists With Training New PersonnelA. Resource for all staff.B. Able to perform other duties.C. Compiles statistics for the Admissions Department.PerformanceA. 97 % registration accuracy sustainedB. 6 or less unscheduled absences in a year.Other DutiesA.
