Summary
King County District Court ProfileKCDC is the largest and most technologically advanced Court of Limited Jurisdiction in the State of Washington. It currently processes approximately 200,000 matters per year with 25 elected judges and roughly 260 employees at 8 courthouse locations. The Court is a leader in many areas involving public safety and access to justice, including the use of problem-solving courts, jail-alternative programs, technology- and judge-managed probation services. Thirteen cities contract with King County for court services provided by KCDC.
Position SummaryThe Interpreter Administrative Assistant is responsible for recruiting, assigning and onboarding interpreters. Responsibilities include confirming credentials, verifying all interpreter invoices and processing payments, maintaining accurate budget records, and maintaining the interpreter database.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsIn Central Services, there are two Administrative Assistants, one administers the interpreter program and the other administers the front desk and jury program. Both administrative assistants' positions provide back up support to each other.
Job Duties
Essential FunctionsAdministers the Interpreter Program including recruiting new interpreters, contacting interpreters to fill open interpreter jobs, confirming state certification credentials, and maintaining the interpreter database.
Advises interpreters on Court policies and procedures. Ensures interpreters comply with these policies and procedures and collects feedback to ensure quality control.
At times, may require extensive outreach to fill requests for rare languages and origins. This includes reaching out to agencies, universities, embassies, and out of state interpreter programs.
Assists in maintaining effective working relationships with judges, staff, prosecutors, defense attorneys' other courts, county agencies, and the public.
Ensures timely completion of written translations as requested.
Works with court management and frontline staff when interpreter issues occur.
Organizes, updates, and maintains files and desk procedures. Gathers, organizes, and prepares reports and data for inclusion in reports quarterly and as requested.
Provides input and responsible for administering court policies, rules, guidelines, and procedures and assures proper application with the Language Access Plan.
Processes interpreter invoices for payment including verification. Receives and files all invoices. Maintains accurate budget records for all invoices. Acts as a liaison to accounts payable on interpreter vouchers and jury cost bills.
Additional ResponsibilitiesPerforms the role of Jury Services Administrative Assistant and Front Desk Duties as needed.
Conducts staff meetings at locations as required for training purposes.
Leads educational orientation for new hires on the Interpreter Services program and interpreter web application.
Assists with the development of new projects and serves on committees and attends workgroups as required
Supervisory Responsibilities The Interpreter Administrative Assistant has no formal supervisory responsibilities. Formal supervision includes directing work; providing performance reviews; and having the authority to discipline, hire, or terminate assigned employees.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills
Education and ExperienceHigh school diploma and three to five years administrative and coordinating experience.
OR
An equivalent combination of education and demonstrated experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the responsibilities of the job.
Skills and Abilities- Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work
- Proficiency working with a court case management system, KCDC interpreter web application and KCDC jury application
- Ability to communicate and express ideas and recommendations
- Proficiency working with software and personal computer applications including Microsoft Office
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships both within and outside of the Court
- Knowledge of policies, procedures, and laws pertaining to the use of interpreters and jurors in the state of Washington

The vision abilities required to perform this position include close vision.
Working Conditions: Work is typically performed in an office environment with a moderate amount of noise (computers, printers, light traffic). This role routinely uses standard office equipment.
