JOB ANNOUNCEMENT

POSITION: Family Law Hotline Attorneys, temporary full or part-time

Central Minnesota Legal Services seeks to hire full or part-time attorneys for its Centralized Intake and Hotline
Project focused on family law. We are planning for the positions to be located in our Minneapolis office, but this
is negotiable. CMLS has a hybrid work policy and staff are in a physical office location two days a week.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The staff attorney positions in the Centralized Intake and Hotline Project involve working with other attorneys and staff to provide legal assistance to eligible clients residing in CMLS’ twenty-one
county service area in Central Minnesota. The positions will primarily involve screening telephone applicants for
eligibility and determining whether cases fit CMLS’ case priorities, or the priorities of other legal aid partners
involved in this project. The positions will also involve providing brief advice in family law primarily by phone
and email if the caller’s legal matter can be handled with brief advice. Duties include recording call information
and legal advice provided in our electronic case management system. The attorneys will be supervised by the
CMLS Management Team. CMLS has a hybrid work policy and some remote work available.

BACKGROUND: The mission of Central Minnesota Legal Services is to increase access to justice by providing
high quality legal services to individuals experiencing poverty, challenging inequities, and empowering
community members to participate in our civil legal system.

CMLS is a three-office program providing free legal representation to low-income clients in 21 counties in central Minnesota. The Minneapolis office serves Anoka and Hennepin Counties.

CMLS is funded primarily by federal and state grants. CMLS also has other funding sources to provide civil legal
services to specific low-income populations in its service area. CMLS enjoys a good rapport with, and strong
support from, the organized bar and the local judiciary.

QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated commitment and sensitivity to the problems of marginalized communities
and individuals experiencing poverty. Prior experience with family required. Experience in family law, poverty
law or law school clinical experience preferred. Candidates should be licensed to practice law in Minnesota.
Ability to speak a second language, particularly Spanish or Somali, is a plus. Ability to use an electronic case
management system and electronic resources relevant to the hotline project.

Demonstrated commitment to furthering principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion and ability to work
effectively with people from different backgrounds are essential. We strongly encourage candidates of all
identities, experiences, and communities to apply. We welcome information about how your experience can
contribute to serving our diverse client community. Must have strong communication skills, ability to work
constructively in a team setting, exhibit good judgment, ability to learn quickly and work independently.

Salary: $70,001 -$84,303 D.O.E. pursuant to the CMLS salary schedule. Excellent benefits. The availability of
benefits depends on whether a part-time or full-time position is offered. Remote work available in a hybrid
weekly schedule.
